About

It’s okay to not be okay. Come as you are.

My Approach

In our work together, you'll find a safe, non-judgmental space with empathy, validation, and empowerment. I meet you exactly where you are with compassion, understanding, and respect.

You are the expert in your own life, and together we can create personalized plans and develop practical skills to gain clarity, enhance coping, nourish well-being, and navigate life’s challenges with greater insight and ease. Therapy and healing are not linear—chaotic trauma dumping, venting, crying, and laughing are always welcomed.

Self-discovery, growth, and healing happen through the thoughtful, curious examination of the self. It is when we sit with ourselves through pain, heartbreak, loss, and grief that we truly learn who we are, what we are capable of, and how to move through to the next page.

My role is to be alongside you with guidance, information, questions, and the space to slow down and find your way through the mess.

“Courage doesn’t happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life”- Shannon L. Alde

My Story

I’m Thameena Nazir (she/her/they), a relationally focused, radically feminist, culturally affirming, trauma-informed, holistic Social Worker, Psychotherapist, and Activist.

I hold a BA in Sexuality, Marriage and Family Studies with a minor in Women’s Studies from the University of Waterloo (2011), as well as a Master of Social Work from Carleton University (2013).

While these academic programs provided me with a strong foundation in theories, frameworks, and critical thinking, it’s the human relationships I’ve built along the way that have truly inspired and informed my work.

When I began my career as a Social Worker, I focused on frontline community work, directly engaging with some of Ottawa’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations. My experiences in shelters, drop-in centers, crisis support, and community programs have profoundly shaped me as a Social Worker and continue to influence the therapy approaches and programs I offer today.

I have always been passionate about helping others. My natural listening skills, reflective nature, and approachability allow me to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

Beyond Titles and Qualifications:

I am a human with an intersecting identity who has experienced my own struggles with mental health, trauma, heartbreak, and loss.

I am an artist at heart. Whether it’s painting, drawing, sketching, writing, embroidery, or tatreez, I find joy in expressing myself through creativity. I’m deeply connected to nature and spend my time hiking and snowshoeing in the forest. Yoga and weightlifting are regular practices that help me ground my body and mind and release daily stressors. Music is my constant companion, and I love finding the perfect song for every vibe. I read the Qur'an regularly, using it as a guide to navigate my life. And yes — I have an adorable office buddy, my cat - Kalina, who often makes appearances during sessions!

As an Indo-Guyanese 🇬🇾, first-generation, and Muslim woman, I have navigated many challenges in a world shaped by colonialism, patriarchy, and racism, as well as the expectations and complexities of culture and religion. These experiences have deeply shaped my commitment to supporting BIPOC and QTBIPOC communities in finding their voices in a world that too often tries to silence them. It is my mission to help break the shackles that seek to hold us down. Our voices matter. Our stories matter.
